Well hello there and welcome to my About me section. I guess the fact that you are checking out who this guy actually is, means that the information you found here so far was at least intriguing enough to wonder if it really is legit? Although the content shared here is free, I believe you have every right to know who the person is behind this texts, so you can decide for yourself if this is actually useful advice. It is of course not easy at all to squeeze a lifetime experience into just a few sentences, so my only excuse is “you asked for it”!
So, let me introduce myself, my name is Renato Skofac, but let’s maybe start at the very beginning… I was at school age, we had just left Croatia my home country, or what still was Yugoslavia back then and moved to Germany. I had no friends, barley spoke the language, so I became the unpopular new immigrant child. I got bullied and beaten up by a group of other kids on a daily base and the schoolyard became my personal hell for years! I had to learn how to fight back in order to prevail and luckily, I turned out to be very, very stubborn. I’ve started to train in martial arts when I was 12 years old and that worked very well for me, martial arts had changed my life and became a passion that lasted for a lifetime.
Do to my martial arts experience and my let’s call it “never give up” attitude (also known as being stubborn as hell), I was privileged to have served my military service in one of the most elite special forces units in my home country. That opened all doors for interesting opportunities in the security field and despite being an excellent student all my life and having many other options, I decided to build a career in the security industry. In the beginning I had worked for years in the physical security sector, in intervention teams, as team leader on big sport events and concerts, in alarm monitoring stations, bouncing at night clubs and as a trained and certified bodyguard.
It was when my first child got born, that I decided this kind of work became too risky, so I went back to school to become a security engineer. I started my own business and progressed over the years from a small alarm system installer to a respected security system integrator. Over time I had installed thousands of security systems, from residential and small business, to hospitals and large office buildings. I have also written and published countless articles about technical security systems, exhibited on trade shows, trained business partners and customers and I eventually became an expert in the field.
I am now for 25+ years in the security industry and have lived and worked so far in four countries on two continents. I studied Crisis Management, completed countless courses and certifications in Close Protection, Self-Defence and Security Training, as well as in Project and Security Management. I have worked for some of the biggest corporations in this industry and I currently hold the position of a Security Program Manager at one of the worlds leading IT corporations, being responsible for the security of Data centers all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa. I mention all this not to impress anyone, but only to give the information I share here, the necessary legitimacy and to prove that I know a thing or two about the subjects I talk about. That being said, I do not think that I know it all, or that I even know things better, I simply share my personal experiences, hoping that this information might be useful to some of you out there.
